New taxes will be collected on telecommunication and money transfer services to fund education programs promised by President Martelly during his campaign.
The Haitian state will begin to collect taxes on money transfer on June 1, 2011, at the rate of $1.50 dollar per transaction. That tax will be collected by commercial banks, saving banks and transfer bureaus.
Taxes on telecommunication services will begin on June 15, 2011.
